Vlog | JISC Digifest 2020 The ICC Birmingham

Posted on June 27, 2020December 26, 2021 by PinPin

JISC Digifest 2020 is an ed-tech event for higher education, which took place on 10-11 March 2020 in the International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham, UK. This event has created a platform to explore lifelong learning and ways in which technology can transform learning for all. JISC Digifest 2020 contains panel discussions, workshops, speeches and debates.

As a digital student ambassador (DSAG) at the University of Lincoln, I was so lucky to participate in this event before the lockdown in the UK. We could not stress more the importance of technology in our study during the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital capabilities become one of the most popular topics in businesses and educations. It is suggested that every 5 years, we should reskill and upskill ourselves in terms of digital knowledge while the pandemic seems to become the catalyst for change management.

In the interview with Randal Wilson-Jack, a business analyst JISC, I get to know more about Natalie 4.0 and understand the in-depth meaning of integrating transformative technology to education. In this quarantine period, I get access to different online learning resources considering employability, digital skills and my hobby, dancing. Education becomes more and more inclusive thanks to the development of technology.

Here is my biggest takeaway from JISC Digifest 2020:

  • 3P and 4D are useful tactics to address the gaps between education and industry in terms of digital capabilities. This provides references for businesses and academics to adapt to the next new normal.
  • Always remember to reskill and upskill our digital capabilities and be open-minded to the latest technology. Join different courses and make full use of digital communication tools to learn from specialists.
  • Use our empathy to understand a buyer’s persona and customer journey in order to build user-centric digital journey. In the process of decision making, it is essential to do market research to understand the customer while knowing internal staff or students opinions is also crucial.

It is very interesting to explore digital technology from an academic perspective. JISC Digifest 2020 has given me so much inspiration and made me more open-minded to technology. I believe that as a new generation, we have a social responsibility to overcome the resistance of change and embrace technologies to have a better future.
